Performance
Powering the Grand Highlander are three engine options. The base engine is a turbocharged 265-hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder with an eight-speed automatic transmission using front- or all-wheel drive. And the other two are hybrids. The Hybrid Max powertrain uses a turbocharged 2.4-liter and an electric motor to output 362 horsepower. While the other uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder and two electric motors to output 243 horsepower.
The EPA estimates the 2.5-liter hybrid with front-wheel drive gets about 37 mpg city and 34 mpg highway. The Hybrid Max model is rated as high as 26 mpg city and 27 mpg highway. The non-hybrid engine is rated as high as 21 mpg city and 28 mpg highway.
Technology & Safety
Accompanying such powerful and efficient engines are a slew of tech and safety features. In the cabin, drivers can find a seven-inch digital display, a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, and Toyota's latest software interface. Though upgrade to a higher trim, a larger all-digital 12.3-inch gauge and an 11-speaker JBL stereo become standard.
Along with great tech, every Grand Highlander features a suite of driver-assistance features called TSS 3.0. Blind-spot monitoring and automated emergency braking are standard, as are adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beam headlamps, and a road-sign recognition system.

The Grand Highlander is available in three trims:
- XLE
- Limited
- Platinum
Design
As a larger model, the Grand Highlander has a roomier cabin than the standard Highlander model. The third row boasts enough space for fully grown adults, and the interior styling includes a more symmetrical dashboard design. When equipped with a second-row bench seat, there's space for eight passengers, but those seeking a seven-seat arrangement can swap that bench out for captain's chairs.
